I have been using the Cle de Peau concealer for more than a year and I wanted to give it a fair chance before I did a review on it.
This concealer has almost achieved a cult status in the beauty world as it is highly popular and used by many celebrities, makeup artists, makeup gurus etc. I had been wanting to try it for a few years until I finally decided to take the plunge and spend the hefty amount on just a “concealer stick”.
It retails for $70 and is available at most of the department stores. I ordered it online through Neiman Marcus’ website so it was a bit of a struggle for me as far as the color match was concerned because it only comes in 6 shades. So I would definitely advise to try it out in stores before you buy.
Now at $70 a pop, you would expect this concealer to work miracles — while I do think it is a great concealer, I definitely wasn’t blown away by it. Since I have been using it for more than a year, I can definitely say that it has come in very handy, because of its portability, it has been super easy to just take it out of my makeup bag and do a touch-up. But that is the only biggest advantage as far as I have experienced.
The formula is a bit on the drying side especially for my super dry under eye area. I also feel that you do need a couple coats to get complete coverage. This ends up creasing under the eye area. Or maybe, I just have crazy dark under eye circles. For the rest of the face, it covers fine but I definitely find it a bit on the drying side. Usually, I have to apply copious amounts of moisturizer before applying the concealer for it to not give me any dry patches.
Verdict: Yay or Nay?
Overall, I feel that I can achieve the same results using any other concealer for a fraction of the price. I was hoping it would be one of those holy grail products for me, but sadly it wasn’t. Now, I am just waiting for it to finish up. So I can venture out to other concealers that are on my list. So in my humble opinion, it definitely was not worth it, or at least not worth $70 for me. Maybe if it were a bit less than its listed price and more emollient in texture, I would have repurchased.
