What’s inside?
- 4-5 hands-on activities
Okay firstly how bright and cheery is the box itself? The box also always demonstrates the theme of the month, so expect to see a differentย box each month, which I think is so exciting! The colorful packaging instantly illustrates that it is all about themed imaginative play.
Everything inside our September box! The theme this month was all about living up an explorer’s life. How fun?:)
Each of the 5 individual themes as they pertain to the Main theme of the month come individually bagged. And within each numbered bag are at least 2-4 crafts. So realistically, you are getting at least 15 crafts and fun activities in the box, which is more than enough to last the whole month or more! Pretty awesome, I’d say. ๐
You also receive a very detailed and colorful information booklet with more activities inside.
All 5 instruction cards with the level of difficulty, messiness and time involved listed on each of them.
The flip side shows step-by-step instructions. So they certainly make it a breeze to follow through. ๐
Starting off with the little magazine/booklet and we learned about camping and exploring the wilderness.
As always, there were tons of educational activities and reading practice as we went through the magazine. This always turns out to be a great way to warm up to the theme of the month as we head into working through each of the 5 activity kits!
Next month’s sneak peek is there too! Next month is going to be all about pretending to be animal doctors – definitely a popular theme amongst most children. ๐
Let’s check out what the kiddos learned about being an explorer! Each activity/craft is numbered so it always makes sense to just follow the sequence. ๐ The first activity is always about dress-up fun as it pertains to the theme of the month and I love how everything comes so organized.
01| Dress Like A Wilderness Explorer!
Everything required to dress up as an explorer and go out and about in the wilderness! Spy some really fun activities in there.
How adorable is the little backpack? The girls took turns in decorating it.
Next, Ms. H decided to tackle the binoculars!
Trying to understand how a compass watch works after creating a design on the watch using the washable marker (this was basically just coloring for her). ha ๐
And finally the little one grabbed all the goodies from her sister and decided to go off on her own little adventure dressed up as the explorer. ๐
02 | Let’s Go Camping!
Time to build our campsite! Everything required for this project.
Ms. H is painting the characters (peg people) – painting is by far her most favorite activity of all time! ๐
Making fire with the foam fire ring. Attaching the tissue paper to the adhesive side of the ring.
Using the Kid Wonder box itself, we attached the black foam to the bottom of the box to make a night sky. Decorated with the stars and used the green foam on the flap of the box. And there you go, our campsite was all ready! We just added the tent as it was super quick to assemble! This was a great way for the kids to practice storytelling with the crafts they created themselves. ๐
Love the educational activities sneaked in between all the fun crafts! Certainly gets the little ones excited to get some learning done while having all the fun. ๐
03 | Wilderness Training
Off to wilderness training the little ones go. This was more about jumping around and utilizing all that energy that kids have into doing something fun while moving around.
What an awesome way to sneak in some exercise into play. ๐
We loved the scavenger hunt from last month’s box and I am sure this one will be equally loved. I have kept this aside for when we go out to the playground so that we can make it more of an interactive experience.
04 | Let’s Go Fishing!
Can’t go camping without going fishing! So here we were off to painting away our fishes while learning about the parts and lifecycle of a fish!
We learned how to create secondary colors from primary colors (which is what my older one is doing in the picture below!).
Also learned about the life cycle of a fish! Always a fan of the colorful illustrations and easy wordings. ๐
This was hours of fun for both my girls! I am such a huge fan of this activity/game as well as it really hones in on those fine motor, concentration and balancing skills! ๐
05| Let’s Make S’Mores!
Lastly, it was time to make pretend s’mores!
We received white and chocolate frosting in the kit along with an adult helpers’ guide for ingredients and allergy information, so that was great on Kid Wonder’s part.
We just added in the powdered sugar separately into each colored frosting until it was not sticky anymore. I chose to do this myself as I knew the amount of mess that’ll happen if I let the 4 and 2.5-year-old do this step. ๐
Time for the kiddos to have some sensory fun with this delicious smelling frosting. The girls played for hours and displayed off their creative skills onto something other than “play-doh”. Not sure if they got around to actually making a s’more but rest assured, this mama got to try out tons of delicious frosting-made goodies. ๐
So thoughtful of Kid Wonder to include this adorable ziplock baggie for storing in the frosting dough. ๐
Each activity kit also came with its own individual badge to be given off as a reward after finishing off the activity. Pretty cool! ๐
Verdict
Another jam-packed month filled with educational activities and hands-on craft projects. By the time we finished off all the activity kits, both my girls had a solid grasp on what it means to be a wilderness explorer! For only $24.95 a month, you really can’t go wrong with this one! Next month is going to be all about becoming an Animal Doctor, so don’t miss out andย use coupon code HAPPY30 and get 30% off your first Kid Wonder Box!
