In this time and age of technology, screen time continues to play an important role in the upbringing of our kids. While I am particular about screen time and have limits in place, I also realize the importance of using technology as a way to make our lives easier. I have one preschooler and a kindergartener, who are both starting to show a lot of interest in math. Which is why I had been looking for a good resource that would make learning math even more fun for them! Because let’s be honest, math at times can get pretty tedious. 😉
What is Elephant Learning?
So I wanted to create a positive learning experience for them, so they can start enjoying math from their early years! Which is when I came across Elephant Learning. If you have not heard of it, it is an Online Math Academy that teaches math concepts such as counting, fractions, decimals, percentages, and even
algebra more effectively than before. Their mission is to empower children with mathematics. So, essentially, Elephant Learning is like a personal tutor to your child. It is designed for kids ages 2-16.
How much does it cost?
The tuition is $35 a month, and covers up to 3 students. which is great! And they also offer scholarships that are exclusively available through Math Matters. Furthermore, it is a tool that is proven to teach children one year of math in three months, when used 30 minutes per week! So, I was definitely very excited to test out how true it holds!
You create an account with the name of your child and add in his/her age, so the system can gauge what level your child will begin at. And it quickly detects what your child understands or does not understand and uses that information to effectively teach math.
It was super easy to set up both my kids and we jumped right into the modules. I loved the way it provides real time reports to parents, letting us know what our kids are working on. Also, the modules are designed as games, so there is always that entertainment factor that is present which makes math definitely way more fun for younger kids!
We have been using Elephant Learning for over a month now and I have seen so much progress in my kids’ math skills. My 5 year old has advanced from age level 5 to age level 6 in a span of a couple weeks, which makes me so happy, as a parent! And my 4 year old is thoroughly enjoying the math games and showing consistent progress in her learning.
One of our favorite parts about Elephant Learning has been that how easily it caters to the child’s learning style and ensures that a concept is solidified with consistent repetition via fun & educational games.
The only con that I can think of is that, it might be hard to stop the kids at just 30 minutes each week, since Elephant Learning really helps them get in the groove of learning! So if you are on a lookout for a resource that can help develop and solidify those important math skills at an early age, then you definitely should check out Elephant Learning, as we have seen consistent growth in both our kids’ math skills.
